EURAXESS Science Slam is open to China-based researchers from all sectors, all fields (incl. Social Sciences and Humanities, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering), all nationalities and all research career stages (including masters students, phd students, postdocs and research related professionals).
Step 1: Get creative and develop an original idea to present your research project to the world. Everything is allowed (as long as it is decent).
Step 2: Click the button on the top of the page to register and we will ask you to show us your research with a short video or video call.

This was the Science Slam last year!

Thank you all for supporting...

.... the 2nd EURAXESS Science Slam in China in 2014!

... and supporting our slammers....

... and their research!

.... All five finalists were winners...

... in the end, only Wang Yanting fom Beijing University won a trip to Europe - AND THIS YEAR, IT CAN BE YOU!
Inaugurated in 2013, the EURAXESS Science Slam has become an annual event organized in ASEAN, Brazil, China, India, Japan and North America. Researchers from all over China joined in the first edition of the EURAXESS Science Slam. Six slammers competed in the exciting finals in front of 200 people in Beijing. In the end, Dr. Yu Yang from Wuhan University became China’s first EURAXESS Science Slammer and embarked on a trip to Europe.
In 2014 again, Wang Yanting from Beijing University's National Institute of Drug Dependence won the audience over with her "Story of Addiction" and in June 2015 went to Europe for a scientific tour!
We were all grateful to all the brilliant finalists, enthusiastic public, swirling waiters and waitresses, cool sound technicians, authentic kung fu masters and distinguished jury members for a memorable evening!

A science slam is a competition at which researchers explain their original work with impact.
Each slam (performance) is judged by the audience and/or a jury based solely on certain criteria and nothing else.
An effective slam is a clear and entertaining explanation of your research that leaves a strong impression with the audience.
- Accessibility (e.g., understandability for a general audience, clarity)
- Concept (e.g., if the structure or way of presenting is reinforcing the content/message)
- Originality (e.g., a conference-style presentation is probably not very original)
- Style/Execution (e.g., the "flow" of the slam, your confidence, the level of preparation)
If you check a dictionary, you can find many meanings for the word "slam", such as:
- To slam (e.g., a door): To close or strike with strong impact (great force, loud noise)
- To slam (e.g., an opinion): To attack verbally or criticize harshly
- A poetry slam: A competition at which poets read or recite original work
Even though we know undergraduates can do great research and can have great (English) science communication skills.
The Science Slam is aimed at researchers participating actively in research.
This includes PhDs, postdocs, researchers, Professors, researchers in industry and occasionally Masters Students if they are involved actively in a proper academic research. Unfortunately this does not include undergrads.
The slam should be about your original research. It can be research you are doing now, or research you did before, but it has to be your own research.
Which part of your research you present, to what level of detail, and in what way, is all up to you. Please confirm with your supervisor to make sure there is no problem with confidentiality.
- Make sure your slam is safe (both for yourself and for the audience!
- Make sure you hold the intellectual property rights to the research presented. (e.g., be careful of copyrights; present your original research)
- Make sure you are allowed to disclose the content (the slam is public, so you shouldn't present sensitive or secret information)
- Be fair and professional (e.g., don't discriminate; don't use abusive language; be respectful to others; show good manners)
